Don't be that person

I work in retail. That much I think can be gathered from the past posts, but if not, I do. From time to time, I work on the register. I try to stay away from it, but sometimes, I just get stuck doing it. Retail isn't the greatest place in the world to work. People become customers. They aren't people any more. I am this way to, and I admit to that fully.

Anyway, people become customers. They lose that part of the brain that is filled with reason and common sense and it is replaced with, I think, not quite sure, but I think it's Jell-O Pudding. Vanilla flavor from the smell of it. Anyway, long story short, when you work retail, people do stupid things that make your life much more difficult.

I have a long list of things that people do to make my life miserable at work, but at the top of the list happens when I am on register. You've been in the situation before. Your the next person in line. The person in front of you has a relatively easy amount to pay, and you see they have the cash easy enough. Then they hand you the cash part and look for the change. Up till then, it's all good. It's easy. I don't even care that they want to hand me more exact change as I know I don't like change, why would anyone else. Here is when the bad part happens. They start to give you quarters. What do they do? They flip over each quarter before giving it to you to make sure it isn't a state quarter. If it is, they'll keep it. Doesn't matter if they aren't even collecting them. They will keep it anyway. Then they will rummage through their purse or pockets to find whatever loose change they might possibly have other places so that they don't get rid of state quarters. As if they were hard to find. All this takes abour 5 minutes to do, which is silly as it could have taken 2 minutes if you would have just given me one of the 18 Texas quarters you had.

Anyway, just got off work and happy to not be there anymore. Thought I'd let people know about that one little thing to make others life a little easier.

i think they should just give you the dollar and hope that they get a state quarter in return.

although, now that im thinking about it, i remember when they first came out and people were asking me to hunt through my quarters to give them a state one. nasty.

I don't collect quarters.

How about the old folks that don't seem to realize they will have to pay till you ring them up, and THEN they start looking for their change purse? My mother did that and it drove me crazy just to watch.

Retail has its good and bad points.
